Week 13

General updates

This week was pretty slow, I was able to get in some metadata entries. I did not put a lot of my focus on the tech side this week but rather just getting in some entries. After sitting down on the 4th floor quiet area, I found getting into the flow of entering data to be really relaxing (wishing I did have 2 monitors though). I found something really interesting, a man named Milton H Rutherford was a candidate for the district governor, and as I was searching him up, nothing showed unfortunately. I think this highlights the importance of ensuring that these historical documents don’t disappear; there are so many people in the newspaper that would just not show up online.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my experiences as I went through my history degree, and I am so grateful I was able to receive UCF’s education before the big AI trend started to go around. I can’t imagine how much strain it will put on future historians to sort through non AI facts and videos to real events. I’m bringing this up because I had saw a very prominent leader using AI videos of himself to post on twitter (now called X), and it really has stuck with me that true verified information will come from historical documents like the ones that we are scanning.
